Bespoke flatpack houses, which allow homeowners to pick and choose where they put each room, have been assembled at a former shipyard.
Smith’s Dock, in North Shields, North Tyneside, is being transformed under a multi-million pound project by Places for People and Urban Splash.
And work is well underway to install 34 modular homes at the site.
They are being developed under a concept called ‘hoUSe’, which allows people to choose their own layouts and specify which floors they want to have their living rooms or bedrooms on.
It also allows owners to opt for open plan styles or rooms with partitions.
Once the design has been drawn up, in line with the owners’ requirements, the houses are built in a factory in Nottinghamshire before being transported to North Shields on trucks.
The components are then individually lifted with a crane and installed onto their designated floorplates on site.
